Description                :           This course provides students basic knowledge of

                                           how computerized accounting systems functions

                                         through a hand on approach.

General

Objectives:                                                     

  1. Understand how to use Peachtree and QuickBooks two of the most popular accounting software packages used by small and medium sized businesses.

 

  1. Familiarize with the accounting cycle using computerized systems.

 

  1. Develop accounting processes that include the analysis of business transactions using debits and credits, record the transactions in the journals, transfer information to the ledger and subsidiaries, identify and explain adjustments, prepare closing entries and financial statements using Peachtree and QuickBooks software.

 

  1. Increase the ability to work with a computerized accounting system in a service and merchandising businesses.

 

  1. Gain a basic understanding of ethics dilemmas.

 

Specific objectives:

1.      Operate Peachtree’s and QuickBooks.

2.      Use electronic spreadsheet programs in solving accounting problems.

3.      Manage accounts payable information: vendor defaults and vendor records.

4.      Record accounts payable transactions: merchandise purchases, purchase order, cash purchases, and purchases returns.

5.      Manage accounts receivable: Set up customer default information. Set up sales tax information. Set up customer maintenance information. Record credit sales, cash sales, and sales returns. Record customer receipts, partial payments, and edit invoices.

6.      Journalize and post Payroll Journal entries.

7.      Customizing Forms and Import/Export information to a word processing and spreadsheet program.
