The Multimedia Lab                                                Room 320

The Multimedia Language Laboratory actively engages Basic English students in an interactive language learning process with 2 modes of operation: on-line and in-class.  Students enrolled in INGL 3101 and 3102 also enroll in English 3113.  The objective is to reinforce the language skills covered in the Basic English class through a series of modules.

In an interactive environment students work at their own pace on lessons that deal with themes of interest to concurrently develop language skills.  The lessons highlight the biography of the greatest lives such as Clara Barton, Betsy Ross and various others.  The lessons also bring to light important events including the participation of the 65th Infantry in WWI and WWII as well as the explosion of the Challenger Space Shuttle.  Through reading about the lives of those who made a difference, students also develop verb tenses, critical reading skills, distinguishing fact from opinion, and vocabulary enhancement through contextual clues. Upon completion of each module students obtain a score.  The grade obtained in the lab is based on an average of scores which forms a 5% of the students’ Basic English course grade.

The Multimedia Lab is staffed by personnel with specialized knowledge of multimedia applications and equipment.  Prof. Orlando Orengo, the laboratory technician is assisted by various students who are also computer programmers.  During the Spring 2006 semester the lab hours are the following:

Monday– Friday

7:30 am– 2:30.
