THE WRITING ROOM – 125C

The Writing Room is a center that provides to all students of UPR-Bayamon a place where they can go with their English writing assignments or writing pieces already in progress to receive constructive/interactive input on any of the various stages of writing, be they prewriting, writing, revising, or editing. This is a palpable need since classroom-writing experiences may not be sufficient for most students to be able to start and/or develop a writing assignment. The Writing Room (TWR) offers students an opportunity to develop their writing without time constraints or evaluative frameworks. This type of setting contributes to lowering student apprehension about writing and therefore serves as a catalyst to improve their writing abilities. It is not necessary to make an appointment. The hours that TWR is open are posted on the door. These hours change every new academic semester.

The student tutors at TWR are committed to assisting students so that they may improve their writing abilities in English that is their second language. The students who request help may be those who don’t understand a writing assignment, those who have several ideas about their writing task, or even those who have complete drafts. All students are welcome. The requirement is that they have an assigned writing task in English and that they need assistance in developing a written document. TWR is a place where all students that wish to evolve as writers are encouraged to become more self-sufficient and independent. It is also a place that helps students develop their abilities to think critically and creatively through the human and technological mediums available that may facilitate and encourage these processes.
